The contract committee meets to determine and update standard terms and conditions of trade, as well as define standard chemistries of the metals in which we trade; their packing requirements as well as any special movement requirements under International Maritime Dangerous Goods rules (IMDG) that should be noted in a contract. The aim at all times is to alleviate the possibility of trade disputes or misunderstandings. The contracts committee advises on any new legislation that may have a bearing on our trade.
One of the most useful functions of the Contract Committee is the continual review of existing chemistries (norms) and the introduction of new ones when appropriate. The MMTA continues to define and update a growing list of metals and compounds, which reflect the ever-changing demands of new technology. Recent listings include Zirconium and Hafnium.
A further remit of this committee is to review and update sampling and assaying norms.
We would be pleased to hear from members that feel that the introduction of a new chemical norm would encourage further trade in a particular metal.
