Guy Darby is elected as new MMTA Chairman

At the MMTA's 2009 annual general meeting (AGM) held in Istanbul, Turkey, during The International Minor Metals Conference, Guy Darby of Darton Commodities was elected as Chairman of the association.

GD2009Mr Darby replaces Charles Swindon of RJH Trading who was Chairman for the standard term of three years.

In an interview with Minormetals.com Darby outlined his plans for the next three years, including an emphasis on giving the association greater global relevance. He described how the complexion of the MMTA has changed dramatically since the Association was founded in 1973. Today membership includes producers, consumers, shippers and other associated service providers across the world. "We are a 'cradle-to-grave organisation now," Darby said.

"One strategic ambition is to globalise the assocation. We are weighted in Europe, but we have a growing membership in North America and we are going to be looking at China and possibly India," Darby said.

Darby said that North America would be the first market to be developed, building on the strong membership support and existing bi-annual events held in USA and Canada.
