Chris Edler accepts the trophy for MMTA from Wogen's Neil Poulter

On 13th July twelve honed athletes from the MMTA took the field against the mighty Wogen cricket-playing machine. At stake was nothing less than the Association's sporting honour.

The match was prompted by a friendly challenge from Wogen Resources who generously hosted the event and provided refreshments too.

Under blistering London sunshine Wogen batted first and acheived137 for 7 off 22 overs. Under the watchful eyes of Howard Masters, John Price, John Sykes and Peter Watkins, the spirit of the game was adhered to rigidly, despite the recent example set by a certain diminutive tourist in Cardiff.

After a quick break the MMTA began their batting campaign. Tensions were high and all eyes were fixed on a few thin sticks and an orb of red leather. MMTA captain Chris Edler led from the front with a healthy 25 before retiring and gradually the run total edged closer to the Wogen's lofty target.

In the end it came down to the last ball of the last over. Both sides were tied on 137 runs and everything was left to play for...

Fortunately the MMTA's batsman, Steve Hawkins, is not a man to lose concentration under pressure and as the ball came hurtling towards him he calmly raised the bat and redirected its course out towards the boundary, causing the MMTA to win by 4 runs and 5 wickets.

Our thanks to Wogen Resources for inviting the Association to play and providing refreshments (and a hog roast) to players and spectators alike.
