Inspection Schedule

Open all containers, making note of any different markings, forms or indications of heterogeneity or contamination. 

Sampling Schedule

If there are no indications of material heterogeneity then sample on an incremental basis of not more than 10 MT sub lots (ideally 5MT). If heterogeneity is suspected select the incremental groups accordingly but in sub-lots of 5 MT or less (ideally 1MT). Tip 10% of the open drums to confirm the description and using the appropriate ISO shovel (preferably chromium plated) draw 3 increments from each of the tipped drums, into a sealable container to give a bulk sample. With a bulk sample for each sub-lot, where heterogeneity or contamination is suspected it may be considered necessary to segregate certain drums and prepare samples separately. 
Note: Great care should be taken during sampling and sample preparation to avoid contamination (especially regarding iron).

Sample Preparation

The bulk samples can then be mixed by coning and quartering to produce final quality samples. Where considered desirable each sub lot can be treated to produce an individual bulk sample which can either all contribute to give a composite sample or be treated individually to give a series of quality samples.
The balance of the bulk samples being held for reference purposes.
